We are very excited to announce that Reamogetje (Amo) Ngoepe, who has served among us for over two years as our Pastoral Resident in the Urban Pastoral Ministry Programming (funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment), will be ordained to Christian ministry at Old South Church in Boston on Sunday, December 12 during our 10am All-Church Worship service. Thanks be to God.
Amo is a citizen of South Africa with her undergraduate degree from Wits University (Dean's List, top 10% in school, Member of the Golden Key international Honour Society, top 15% in University). She graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 2019. When she came on board with us she was a Member in Discernment (re ordination) with the New York Conference of the UCC and via Middle Collegiate Church where her membership lies. Earlier this fall Amo was "approved for ordination pending call" by the Metropolitan New York Association of the UCC. Well, she has a call!
On Sunday, November 21st Amo Ngoepe was called to serve as the pastor of All Souls Bethlehem Church in Brooklyn NY. Amo will begin with them in February or March. She will conclude her time with us at the end of December and take a month off to move and, hopefully, travel.
Thus, even in a long, painful, disruptive season of pandemic Old South carried on as a Teaching Church of the United Church of Christ. We are proud of Amo and will send her forth as a gifted ordained minister who will bless the United Church of Christ and, of course, the wise and fortunate congregation of All Souls Bethlehem who saw fit to call her.
Ordinations don't happen every day. Will you join us in celebrating Amo, in laying hands upon her, in blessing her on her way?
